Two hundred forty (59%) of the patients interviewed were excluded because of usage of prescription medications for GERD, symptoms occurring more than once a month, or prior endoscopic examination. Fifty-eight patients (14%) refused to participate, and the remaining 110 patients (27%) were enrolled into the study.
