1 Introduction to Macroinvertebrates
Share your copy of this presentation with me by the end of class to receive a classwork grade!

2 Directions for 3/31/17 Copy this presentation and edit it on your own Google Slides or PowerPoint. The next slide shows the 7 macroinvertebrates you have been assigned to research. Go on the RI Envirothon website and look under Aquatics resources. Use the link for Wonderful, Wacky, Water Critters, Macro and Water Quality Talk, and the Biotic Index Card to answer the questions in the slides that follow. Share your Google Slides presentation with me by the end of class to receive a classwork grade. Finish the presentation for Homework! Due Monday 4/3/17 You will briefly present your 7 macroinvertebrates in class!

3 DO NOT FORGET Place your macroinvertebrate traps this weekend! I will check for the following items in class on Monday for a 40 point quiz grade! Take a picture of your trap setup. Get the GPS coordinates or screenshot its location on Google Maps or Google Earth.

4 Macroinvertebrate Assignments

5 Methods for Water Quality Monitoring
What are the three methods for water quality monitoring? What are some pros and cons of each? Method for Monitoring Pros Cons

6 Macroinvertebrate Intolerance
What conditions are some macroinvertebrates intolerant to? (Define DO in this section)

7 Identifying Orders of Macroinvertebrates

Insert image of Macroinvertebrate Be prepared to discuss distinguishing characteristics of the macroinvertebrate to help with identification. Order: Family: General Characteristics: (legs, prolegs, hard capped head, antennae, hard body, soft body, elongated, flattened, etc.) Tolerance Range: ? Class: I, II, or III ? If present, what kind of water quality does it indicate? What does it eat? How does it get its food? How does it get away from enemies? How does it get oxygen? Other unique adaptations? FOLLOW THIS TEMPLATE ONE SLIDE PER MACROINVERTEBRATE
