How to Solve: Create a key Set up equation – use “such that” phrase to determine the equation Solve equation for “x” Plug “x” value back into key Make sure your answer makes sense!! For example: if you were asked for three consecutive even numbers, make sure your answer is three even numbers!

How to Make a Key: Consecutive Integers Example: 24,25,26 These consecutive integers go up by one each time. Correct key: 1st = x 2nd = x+1 3rd = x + 2 4th = x + 3 etc, etc Consecutive Odd Integers Example: 37,39,41 These consecutive odd integers go up by two each time. 2nd = x+2 3rd = x + 4 4th = x + 6 Consecutive Even Integers Example: 14,16,18 These consecutive even integers go up by two each time.
