David – Man of Faith and Victory
God was looking at his heart (1 Sam. 16:7) He was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22, 36) “And Jehovah gave victory to David whithersoever he went” (2 Sam. 8:6, 14)

David – Man of Faith and Victory
The life of David is covered from Samuel 16 to 1 Kings 2 (1 Chron ) Seventy years from 1040 B.C. to 970 B.C. Let us consider 8 victories of David that span approximately 53 years (from age 17 to 70)
5
1: Victory Over Giants (Age 17)
David was victorious over Goliath the giant (1 Sam. 17:50) He trusted in the Lord for his deliverance (1 Sam. 17:37, 45-47; see also 23:14) We overcome giants by trusting in the Lord for our deliverance (1 Cor. 10:13; Tim. 4:17-18; Heb. 13:5; 1 Pet. 5:7)
6
2: Victory Over Evil (Age 17-28)
David was victorious over Saul’s envy, assassination attempts, fear, conspiracy, enemy, anger , fool (1 Sam. 18 – 2 Sam. 1) He behaved himself wisely (1 Sam. 18:5, , 30): good for evil, prayed to God, no revenge, showed respect (24:6-15, 17; 26:9), trusted /strengthened in God, fair, mourned for Saul (2 Sam. 22; wrote many Psalms) We overcome evil with good (Rom. 12:21; Pet. 2:21-23)
7
3: Victory Over Anger (Age 25-28)
David was victorious over his anger and rage at Nabal (1 Sam. 25:10, 21) He listened to the wise prudence of Abigail; her voice of reason (1 Sam. 25:32- 35) We overcome our anger through self- control, kindness, and the voice of reason (Gal. 5:22-23; Eph. 5:26-27, 31-32; Col. 3:8, 13-14)
8
4: Victory Over Error (Age 40)
David was victorious over his error in the improper transportation of the ark (2 Sam. 6:1-15) He realized he needed to transport it according to God’s word (1 Chron. 13; 15; see 15:13) We overcome error by following the pattern of God’s word (2 Tim. 1:13)
9
5: Victory Over Sin (Age 51)
David was victorious over the sins he committed with Bathsheba (2 Sam ) and numbering Israel (2 Sam. 24) He confessed his sin and offered the necessary sacrifice (2 Sam. 12:13; 24:10) We overcome sin when we (erring Christians) repent, confess, and pray (Acts 8:22-24; 2 Cor. 7:9-11; Jas. 5:13; Jn. 1:7-9)
10
6: Victory Over Rebellion (Age 57-63)
David was victorious over the rebellion of Absalom (2 Sam. 15:12) His left it in God’s hands (2 Sam. 16:12), dealt gently with Absalom (2 Sam. 18:5), and wept over his death (2 Sam. 18:33) We overcome rebellion putting it in the Lord’s hands and staying busy in the Lord’s work (2 Cor. 11:22-33; 2 Tim. 4:9- 18)
11
7: Victory Over Battles (Age 65-67)
David was victorious over many battles with enemies (2 Sam ) He trusted in the Lord and he surrounded himself with mighty men (2 Sam. 22; 23:8) We overcome our spiritual battles (1 Pet. 2:11) with the strength of the Lord’s might (Eph. 6:10-18) and by surrounding ourselves with mighty men (Phil. 2:25; Philemon 2)
12
8: Victory Over Life (Age 70)
David was victorious over his old age (1 Kings 1-2) He told his son to follow God’s word and continue his legacy of justice (1 K. 2:1-9) We overcome our life by living faithfully and then “passing the torch” to the next generation (2 Tim. 1:13; 4:5-9)
13
Faith is the Victory David’s faith in God made him victorious (Heb. 11:32-34) “but thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 15:57-58) “For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4)
14
Faith is the Victory “And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire; and them that come off victorious from the beast, and from his image, and from the number of his name, standing by the sea of glass, having harps of God” (Rev. 15:2)
