Program Overview The Fulbright Specialist program promotes educational and professional linkages between the U.S. and South Africa. Grants are awarded to qualified U.S. faculty members and professionals to engage in short-term, collaborative, 2-6 week projects at South African universities and other higher education institutions. Your institution can select a candidate from the thousands of pre-approved, highly qualified U.S. scholars and professionals in 26 academic disciplines and numerous specializations on the Fulbright Specialist Program roster. It takes a minimum of two-months for ECA in Washington DC to select a scholar already on the roster and three months if not on the roster. Scholars have a doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in their field, and professionals have recognized professional standing and accomplishments.
