1 June 4, 2018 Afternoon Group Activity – Part 1

2 Through unified regional planning efforts, the Telecommunications industry has
been identified as a significant employment and economic driver across the region. Now, an LWIB member in one of your region’s LWIAs – who is a representative of a telecommunications company in the region – has informed her LWIB of an important regulatory change within the industry. This change will require all installation and maintenance workers to obtain a new credential within one year in order to be in compliance with these regulations. Knowing that this will impact employers within this industry across the region, what are your options to develop appropriate solutions?

4 Through unified regional planning efforts, the Health Care industry has
been identified as a significant employment and economic driver across the region. Locally, in one of the LWIA’s that make up your region, a long-term care facility is facing the retirement of up to 50% of its nursing staff in the next three years and their population is trending toward Hispanic patients. The facility would like to diversify its workforce to address these trends. Through conversations with LWIB members and economic development representatives, it becomes apparent that both of these trends are holding for other employers within this industry as well. Knowing that these trends will impact employers within this industry across the region, what are your options to develop appropriate regional solutions?

6 Through unified regional planning efforts, the TDL industry has
been identified as a significant employment and economic driver across the region. Two years ago, a national company opened a distribution center within your region. They would like to expand (and add new staff), but are having difficulties attracting enough potential hires to even meet the demand they are currently experiencing. Through conversations partner staff across your region, it seems clear that other distribution facilities are having the same types of problems. Given that employers within this industry across the region are having problems finding staff, what are your options to develop appropriate regional solutions?
