Cyclosporine toxicity in renal transplant recipients detected by nailfold capillaroscopy with Na-fluorescein  Olivier Bongard, Daniel Weimer, Robert Lemoine, Jean-François Bolle, Michel Leski, Henri Bounameaux  Kidney International  Volume 58, Issue 6, Pages (December 2000) DOI: /j x Copyright © 2000 International Society of Nephrology Terms and Conditions

2 Figure 1 Capillaroscopy without (A) and with intravenous Na-fluorescein (NaF) injection (B). NaF greatly improves the sensitivity of capillaroscopy by enhancing the image contrast and providing an assessment of microvascular flow distribution and a dynamic evaluation of transcapillary and interstitial diffusion of dye in the interstitium. 3 Figure 2 Time to peak of intensity of the NaF in patients with and without significant histologic signs of cyclosporine toxicity. The macrocirculatory component, that is, the time from intravenous injection to first dye appearance in the nailfold capillaries, has been subtracted. A short time to peak NaF (<10 sec) was associated with normal kidney biopsies in 42 of 45 patients (93%, P < , chi-squared).
