3. Our Purpose Statement
We will be able to construct purpose statements in order to support student learning by engaging in simple evaluation and scaffolded construction of purpose statements.

4. What is a Purpose Statement
A statement that gives students information about what they will learn, why they are learning it and how they will demonstrate that understanding.

5. Setting the Purpose
This process takes 5-7 minutes:
We will be able to… (read the purpose statement aloud to the class, which will be written on the left-hand side of your board).
Access prior knowledge, refer to previous learning (“If you think back to yesterday, we determined a definition of a theme and brainstormed themes we have read about.”).
