The Grundtvig Programme
One of the EU lifelong learning programmes Grundtvig focuses on adult education and aims to ‘raise peoples’ life skills knowledge and competencies’ No projects to date on health literacy See

They fund Partnerships (2-year partnership development funding to explore an issue in depth) Programmes (large 3-5 year programmes to undertake research and development in an area of identified need) Exchange programmes Running workshops Attending training

What are the aims of the health literacy bid
To develop a network of organisations, practitioners, and adult learners with skills and interest in health literacy To identify and share examples of good practice that either improve the health literacy environment and / or build health literacy skills.

What are the objectives of the partnership bid?
1. To undertake scoping of initiatives within partner countries on: The health literacy learning environment: HL skills in education and health workers (lead: Ireland, UK) HL skills in peer educators (Lead: Denmark) Approaches to building health literacy skills within communities Initiatives to develop community health literacy skills and qualifications, including widening use of ICT (Leads: Italy, Germany) Embedding health literacy in family learning through community libraries (Leads Romania, UK)

What are the objectives of the partnership bid?
2. To address the following questions for each topic: What is happening in this area in our countries? Where are the gaps? What are the costs and benefits of the initiatives identified? What evidence is there of the effectiveness of the intervention? What are the quality indicators? What can be disseminated and shared across Europe i.e. materials/products?

What are the objectives of the partnership bid?
3. To run 1-day meetings (1 per topic) where results of each identification exercise are presented to partners, followed by a workshop attended by local adult learners, tutors and health professionals where specific issues are discussed and areas for future development and research identified 4. To develop a ‘what to do next’ guide for learners and tutors who want to develop an initiative in their locality 5. To explore a Research and Development Programme bid
