2 SMART GOALS The best way to truly FOCUS ON RESULTS is for EVERY COLLABORATIVE TEAM TO ESTABLISH SMART GOALS that ALIGN WITH SCHOOL AND DISTRICT GOALS.

3 SMART GOALS A SMART goal is: Strategic and specific
SMART GOALS should be strategic meaning they are aligned with the organization’s goals. Since the MISSION OF THE DISTRICT is to IMPROVE STUDENT LEARNING, SMART GOALS should FOCUS SPECIFICALLY AND DIRECTLY ON EVIDENCE OF STUDENT LEARNING.

SMART goals should STIPULATE BOTH THE PAST LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE AND THE IMPROVEMENT GOAL FOR THE INDICATOR BEING MONITORED.

Attainable SMART goals should attainable and INCLUDE SHORT-TERM GOALS THAT SERVE AS BENCHMARKS OF PROGRESS.

6 SMART GOALS A SMART goal is: Strategic and specific Measurable
Attainable Results-oriented Focus on results, not activities. Effective SMART goals will help answer the question, “HOW WILL WE KNOW IF OUR STRATEGIES ARE RESULTING IN GAINS IN STUDENT LEARNING?” SMART goals will FOCUS on the INTENDED OUTCOME RATHER than on the STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE THE OUTCOME.

Attainable Results-oriented Time-bound

Address ALL POINTS on the SMART acronym Ensure that all points of the SMART acronym are addressed in the SMART goal.
