Table Setting How do I set the table? Choose table settings that are appropriate for the meal that you’re preparing. All About Food and Life Skills- McMahon

Meal Appeal Size and Shape- Varying the sizes and shapes of foods will give you a much more appealing meal. All About Food and Life Skills- McMahon

Meal Appeal Color- Choosing foods of different colors will make the meal look more interesting. For instance, having a salad with tomatoes and carrots will add color to your meal. A garnish is a small amount of a food or seasoning to decorate the food. Parsley, lemon wedges, orange slices, and paprika are garnishes. All About Food and Life Skills- McMahon

Meal Appeal Texture- Foods with different textures add variety to a meal. Texture means the way food feels when it is eaten. Raw vegetables are crisp and pudding is smooth. One way to vary the textures of foods is by preparing them in different ways. For example, think of the difference in texture between raw and cooked carrots. All About Food and Life Skills- McMahon

Skills- Choose recipes at your skill level. You may want to avoid complicated recipes, if you’re a beginning cook Equipment- Do you have all the utensils you need? Ingredients- Make sure you have all the ingredients BEFORE you start cooking. Money- Do your ingredients fit your food budget? Time- How much time do you have to prepare your meal? Plan before you start! 1- What are you making for your meal? List all items, including side dishes and beverages. 2- Attach your recipe!! 3- What’s your plan? Look at the example provided at the bottom of the page. All About Food and Life Skills- McMahon
