A Bit Of history The IHSA evolved out of the former “Society of Women Housing Managers”, established in 1941. In 1959, membership was opened to all housing practitioners. The IHSA has been instrumental in promoting representivity in all disciplines involved in the housing process. The IHSA has proactively promoted close working relationships between the public and private sector.

Our Vision To be recognized as the housing body that provides
constructive input to housing policy and debates, regulates and supports the practice and conduct of housing practitioners in South Africa.

Our Mission Statement The Institute for Housing [IHSA] promotes and facilitates the creation of sustainable housing environments through: Contribution to housing policy debates and formulation, Information dissemination, through conferences and seminars, Recognition of excellence, through Annual Housing Awards done at our Annual Conference, Lobbying.

Our Definition Of Housing
The residential environment, neighbourhood, micro district or environs of the structure including all necessary services, facilities, equipment and devices needed for the physical health and social well-being of the family and the individual.

RELATIONSHIP WITH MINISTER OF HOUSING
Formal meeting held in April 2005 in Pretoria Established a formal relationship Relationship will expand to Provinces

CO OPERATION WITH MINISTER OF HOUSING AND IHSA
Co ordinating input from Material Suppliers. 1st meeting held on the 24th June 2005 in Pretoria. Task Team set up to work on proposals to the Minister – meeting on 12th August 2005. Broader meeting on 22nd August to consolidate report back to Minister To co ordinate BEE Groups in the sector To comment on the Women Quarter allocation in housing delivery and the bottle necks To comment on The Plan broadly
