1 Closing plenary Maths Hubs Forum, July 2016
Charlie Stripp Director, NCETM

2 Taking the vision forward
At last we know the programme is secure for a significant period Major DfE investment has been committed You, as Maths Hub Leads, have created and earned this opportunity

3 Using this opportunity
We now have the opportunity, and the responsibility to realise the vision we have for the Maths Hubs Here are some of the things you said at the first Maths Hub Forum…

4 What you hoped the Maths Hubs can achieve
‘…focus on reducing in-school and regional variation in the quality of maths teaching across phases, resulting in improved outcomes for all groups of students’

5 What you hoped the Maths Hubs can achieve
‘…reach out to a generation to transform maths education, resulting in excitement and engagement in the subject, rapid gains in confidence and high levels of skill in application to solve the real and pressing problems of the 21st century’

6 What you hoped the Maths Hubs can achieve
‘..excellence in maths teaching in every phase through school into adulthood in a culture where mathematics is prized’

7 What you hoped the Maths Hubs can achieve
We are now in position to make these aspirations a reality To do that, the Maths Hubs Network, and you as Maths Hubs Leads, have to take on the mantle as the leaders of maths education nationally I think this is happening, and this forum has reinforced my belief that that is the case

8 National leadership The national coordination teams address the key issues in maths education They are driven by you, and will focus expertise and share it across the whole Maths Hubs Network The Maths Hubs put this leadership where it belongs, with people who know the reality of the work of schools and colleges on the ground

9 National leadership We are now in a position to achieve our vision
This is a huge responsibility and we will (and rightly so) be held to account for what we do I’m confident we will take advantage of the opportunity we have earned to lead continuing, evidence-informed, improvements in maths education
