Homework:
In English class, students will receive an article of the week on Monday and it is due by Friday. Students must use the Mark the Text strategy and write a page of Cornell Notes on the article (this has been modeled for them).
Students can turn their homework in a day early on Thursday for extra points.
There will be very minimal homework in History (Social Studies) class. Additional homework in this class will be decided upon later in the year.
Getting the student’s planner signed by a parent every evening is a very important component to our homework expectations. Planner checks are a school wide policy.
Please have your student read at least 30 minutes a night or 2 hours a week.

Accelerated Reader (AR)
During week two, students take a quick ten question assessment to determine their COMFORTABLE reading level. We write this level on the back of their ID cards and they use this card to check out books from the RVMS library.
Students are assigned an AR point goal every triad (6 weeks) and they reach that goal by taking short reading comprehension quizzes on the AR leveled books they check out. They will be assessed again Dec
