1 Feasibility study and proposed solutions
Task: Conduct a feasibility study of different solutions for the client requirements Feasibility study and proposed solutions M2

2 M2 requires you to write a report, including your own research and references, to meet the task descriptor to the left. To do this: Research into what a feasibility study is. Start your report with an introduction followed by this research. Break the report down into sub sections for the yellow points on the left. For each point, explain what you are considering and how you have reached the outcome of either ‘low risk’ or ‘high risk’. Summarise if your project is feasible. If each type of feasibility has a high level of risk then overall the project would be deemed as unfeasible because the chance of success would be low. Suggest multiple solutions for the original problem, evaluating them against each other. Identify potential solutions and undertake a feasibility study based on the client requirements. The feasibility study must include: technological requirements; economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development).

3 What is a feasibility study?
Once you are convinced that there is a problem which could be solved with a new app you need to determine whether it is feasible to actually go ahead and develop the app. What is a feasibility study?

4 The feasibility study must include: technological requirements;
economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development). Identify potential solutions and undertake a feasibility study based on the client requirements. The feasibility study must include: technological requirements; economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development).

5 technological requirements;
Take the points below and apply them to the language app. Explain the impact of each on the success of the success of the app. technological requirements; Identify potential solutions and undertake a feasibility study based on the client requirements. The feasibility study must include: technological requirements; economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development). Technology Issues Market Issues Performance Ease of learning Ease of deployment Ease of support Operational characteristics (i.e. can it run 7 days a week, 24 hours a day?) Interoperability with your other key technologies Scalability Vendor viability (i.e. is it likely that they will be in business in two years? In five?) Alternate sources for the technology, if any Third-party support for related products and services Level of support provided by the vendor Industry mindshare of the product (i.e. is the market gravitating toward or away from this technology?) e.g. The performance of the technology is crucial to the success of the app. If the app performs slowly, with a high level of lag, this may hinder the rate at which users learn languages. Research shows that timing has a large factor on the success of learning a new language and that delays between questions can prohibit learners success (enter a reference to back this up).

6 economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits;
Take the points below and apply them to the language app. Explain the impact of each on the success of the success of the app. economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; Identify potential solutions and undertake a feasibility study based on the client requirements. The feasibility study must include: technological requirements; economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development). Type Potential Costs Potential Benefits Quantitative Hardware/software upgrades Fully-burdened cost of labour (salary + benefits) Support costs for the application Expected operational costs Training costs for users to learn the application Training costs to train developers in new/updated technologies Reduced operating costs Reduced personnel costs from a reduction in staff Increased revenue from additional sales of your organisations products/services Qualitative Increased employee dissatisfaction from fear of change Negative public perception from layoffs as the result of automation Improved decisions as the result of access to accurate and timely information Raising of existing, or introduction of a new, barrier to entry within your industry to keep competition out of your market Positive public perception that your organisation is an innovator

7 Consider the following legislations and how they impact on the app:
Take the points below and apply them to the language app. Explain the impact of each on the success of the success of the app. legal issues; Consider the following legislations and how they impact on the app: Data protection Act Computer Misuse Act Copyright Designs and Patents Act Identify potential solutions and undertake a feasibility study based on the client requirements. The feasibility study must include: technological requirements; economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development).

8 Take the points below and apply them to the language app
Take the points below and apply them to the language app. Explain the impact of each on the success of the success of the app. operational impact; Identify potential solutions and undertake a feasibility study based on the client requirements. The feasibility study must include: technological requirements; economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development). Operations Issues Support Issues What tools are needed to support operations? What skills will operators need to be trained in? What processes need to be created and/or updated? What documentation does operations need? What documentation will users be given? What training will users be given? How will change requests be managed?

9 scheduling and resources
Take the points below and apply them to the language app. Explain the impact of each on the success of the success of the app. scheduling and resources time scale for development resources needed for development Identify potential solutions and undertake a feasibility study based on the client requirements. The feasibility study must include: technological requirements; economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development).

10 Take the points below and apply them to the language app
Take the points below and apply them to the language app. Explain the impact of each on the success of the success of the app. Potential solutions. Showcase a minimum of two potential solutions for the app. Consider the types of app you could create – a web based app, a mobile app, etc. How do people access these? What restrictions do each have? Use all of the yellow headings to structure your explanation and comparison of the two solutions. Make evaluative comments as to which is most likely to be feasible and why. Identify potential solutions and undertake a feasibility study based on the client requirements. The feasibility study must include: technological requirements; economic or financial costs of development and potential benefits; legal issues; operational impact; scheduling and resources (e.g. time scale for development, resources needed for development).
