DIDIS Distributor Ignition Distributorless Ignition
3
Mechanical device which controls spark timing to the different cylinders through plug wires.
4
Distributor Body Distributor Shaft Distributor Cap Rotor Pick-up Module Coil Distributor Gear Advance Mech
5
Hollow aluminum housing that contains all the necessary parts like the shaft, pick-up, advance, rotor, etc…..
6
The actual spinning part of the distributor Connected to cam Spins pick-up Spins rotor
7
Molded plastic cap that covers the distributor and distributes electricity to the spark plugs via spark plug wires Underside of Cap
8
Mounts to shaft Conducts spark from coil terminal to individual cap terminals
9
The pick up coil's purpose is to create the pulses of the distributor The pulses tell the ignition module when to fire the secondary coil.
10
Amplifies and reshapes the pick-up coil wave
11
The Coil multiplies voltage from the battery 12V in 30,000V to 100,000V out
12
Usually driven off Camshaft
13
As RPM increases the combustion process must begin sooner Two types of advance Mechanical/Centrifugal Vacuum
14
As RPM increases Centrifugal Force pushes weights outward advancing the timing
15
In Ported Vacuum as vacuum increases so does timing. Increase RPM – Increase Vacuum In Manifold Vacuum as vacuum decreases so does timing. Increase RPM – Decrease Vacuum
16
There are several different Wire types and Manufactures depending on the application
17
There are three basic wire types CARBON SUPPRESSION CONDUCTORS SOLID CORE CONDUCTOR WIRES "LOW-RESISTANCE" SPIRAL WIRES
18
Spark plugs come in different.. heat ranges Shapes Sizes
