Hydration and crop fill on chicks fed 2 handfeeding diets. The chick on the left is well hydrated and has a full crop, while the chick on the right is dehydrated and begging. Note the plump and shiny skin around the joints and the toes on the well-hydrated chick versus the drawn, wrinkled, and dull skin on the dehydrated chick.
