1 Vocabulary Intro

2 obeys If someone obeys you, he or she follows your orders or rules.
A careful driver always obeys traffic rules. This driver stops at a stop sign. How can you train a dog so that it always obeys?

3 safety Safety rules are rules that will keep you from getting hurt.
The firefighter talks about fire safety. He teaches about staying out of danger. What gives people safety in their homes?

4 attention If you sit or stand at attention, you are still and look straight ahead. Before crossing the street, stand at attention and look both ways. Why is it important for a life guard to sit at attention while on duty?

5 buddy A buddy is a close friend.
Never swim alone. Always swim with a buddy, or friend. Who is someone you think is a buddy?

6 station A station is a building in which people do a certain kind of work. A police station is a safe place to go if you need help. Would you like to visit a police station? Why or why not?

7 speech A speech is a talk given to a group.
His job is to give a short speech. He will talk about airplane safety. Did you ever listen to someone give a speech?

8 shocked If you are shocked, you are very surprised.
She is shocked at how hot it is outside. She needs to get out of the sun soon! When have you been shocked by something that made you very happy?

9 enormous Something enormous is very big.
Only the workers can go inside the fence on this enormous work site. What is the most enormous building you have ever seen?
