n 1819, President James Monroe and his three men were on a trip from Augusta, Georgia to Nashville, Tennessee, they were going to spend the night in the Spartan Moravian mission at Spring Place but President Monroe went to a near location – this house - about a mile away. The President thought that this house was more comfortable than the mission so he asked the owner permission to spend the night in his house. President Monroe said that he greatly “admired” the house.
