Numeracy Target Cards Each week your child will have a mental arithmetic test based on one of the termly targets. These tests will be on a Friday morning. Homework for the following week will be given out with the spelling homework. The other side of the card shows the ‘Daily Maths Meeting’ targets. The children are expected to know all of these targets ‘off by heart’ by the end of the school year.

Numeracy Mental Maths Homework
Doubling to 10 This week we will be looking at the concept of doubling numbers to 10. The children will be familiar with this concept from year 1 but these are basic skills which the children need to know ‘off by heart’ as we say in class. In class we hold up one finger on each hand and say double 1 is 2 and put both fingers together. This works well up to double 5 is 10. The children find double 6, 7, 8 and 9 the most difficult so you may need to spend more time learning these. Double 1 is 2 Double 2 is 4 Double 3 is 6 Double 4 is 8 Double 5 is 10 Double 6 is 12 Double 7 is 14 Double 8 is 16 Double 9 is 18 Double 10 is 20 In the test the children will be asked the halves and doubles of the numbers randomly e.g. What is double 2? What is double 6? What is double 10? Mental Maths Homework The mental maths homework will follow a format that the children will already be familiar with. As one of the daily maths meeting activities, the children will be given the opportunity to practise the concept they are to be tested on that week.
