Mountains and volcanoes in Japan (part of the Ring of Fire). Plains, humid continental and subtropical in East.

Arid in central, semiarid northern central. Humid Continental in northeast (including north Japan, North Korea, and Northeast China). Humid subtropical in East/Southeast China.

Sparsely populated in west and north. Hydroelectric power is used throughout Asia (Three Gorges Dam). Coal are large exports.
