QUICK WRITE EXERCISE You will break into your task groups to share your stories. (#7 in the book) This should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete. Have a discussion and identify common themes in your notebook (or computer). Example: Columbus was impressed with the kindess of Native Americans. Insert a map of your country.

Determine with your task group the reasons why Europeans were coming over to this strange, new land. 1. What was in it for them? 2. Primarily which countries were they coming from? Insert a picture of one of the geographic features of your country.

The Spanish=Primarily interested in gold, forts, and conversion to Catholicism The French=Primarily interested in exploiting fur. The English==They knew what they were doing….they were raising cash crops for export!! $$$ for the mamma country (England) Insert a picture illustrating a season in your country.

MIDDLE COLONIES= Religious FREEDOM existed here The English conquered the Dutch and took over New Netherland and renamed it New York. Added New Jersey and Pennsylvania The Quakers settled here. Add key points in the history of your country to the timeline.
