This section provides a brief introduction to select methods of making SQL code computationally more efficient. This brief presentation was organized by Dr. Alemi

Goal Before the Presentation Before the presentation you should take a number of steps to improve your chances of success.

No One Way Better & Worse Ways There is no one way to do this—but there are better ways and worse ways.

Adapt to Your Audience Data Cannot be Presented in Vacuum Adapt to your audience needs and how they'll use the information. Data cannot be presented in a vacuum.

Explain the Measures Walk Them through the Measures What you have measured has no meaning on its own. Explain the measures.

6 Distributing Information
Prepare Standalone Report Provide Support for Interpretation. Indicate Limitations. Consider other media for the report besides the print version. For example consider using narrated slides. Make sure report can stand on its own without your further explanations. Provide support for interpretation of data and always indicate limitations.

Send Ahead of Time Get Reactions before Presentation Send the report ahead of time. Get reactions to report before meeting

8 Test It Before Presenting It
Prepare Handouts Check for Accuracy Prepare handouts and check your data, make sure that there are no mistakes. Check for grammar and spelling.  Check that the average across the various reports are calculated accurately.  Add graphs and less text.

At the presentation you should take a number of steps to improve your chances of success.

10 Test It Before Presenting It
Hear & See? Understandable? Make sure that audience can hear and see you. Can they read the information easily. Can they understand it. Make sure that the lighting is appropriate and that your voice can be heard.

11 Spend Time on Introducing the Audience
At the meeting Introduce Audience Spend Time on Introducing the Audience Get the audience to introduce themselves. This is time well spent. Don’t short cut the introductions.

12 Test It Before Presenting It
Interested in Content Practical in Their Clinical Practice? Check for signs that the audience is interested in your content. If not, change the pace. Give more examples. Ask if they can use your materials from your presentation. For example, can the predictive model be used in the clinical setting to screen for patients. Can they navigate through the materials to find the information they want.

13 Present Data Not Conclusions At the meeting
Present the data and not your conclusions. Ask the audience to evaluate the data after each section of the report.  Let them arrive at the conclusions.

At the meeting Acknowledge Limitations Do Not Defend Your Report Acknowledge the limitation of the study. Do not defend your report. Accept the criticism and proceed.

15 Test It Before Presenting It
Answer with Question Explore Audience’s Point of View If an audience member asks a question or makes a comment, don’t answer right away. Ask more clarifying question from him or her. Explore their point of view. Repeat their comment. Make sure the audience understands their point of view.

Schedule Feedback Ask how you can help them more Schedule a feedback time and date ASAP.  At the designated time explore how you can help them. Make it clear that their evaluation of your work is confidential.
