5 Notice that: 3  4 = 12 and that 3 + 4 = 7

7 Find the same two numbers that multiply to equal -10 and add up to 3
= 5 -2 . 3 -2 = 5 +

8 Now Factor x2 + 3x - 10 Use the two Numbers that multiply to = -10 and add up to 3 (x + 5)(x - 2)

9 Check using FOIL (x + 5)(x - 2) x2 - 2x + 5x - 10 x2 + 3x - 10
