SOER 2010 and the SENSE project
On 30 November 2010, the European Environment Agency (EEA) published its fourth European environment – state and outlook (SOER 2010). Have a look - the SOER 2010 website is at: 2

Structure of SOER 2010 SOER 2010 - Synthesis - Thematic assessments

SENSE Scenario 3 Scenario 2 Scenario 1 I 2015 Concerning the input – allow me to remind you about the survey that Johnny Auestad did in April - May this year. This slide depicts roughly the three options that he set up and you replied on. Nr 3 Manual upload on the EEA web site – No national web site, Nr 2 Manual upload of the information on the national web site on the EEA web site and Nr 1 Automatic upload – the latter process was the main topic of the NRC IS meeting yesterday. A quick poll at the meeting resulted that 2/3 are in for scenarios 2 and 3 and 1/3 is in for scenario 1. 2010

SENSE Objectives To consolidate Eionet and EEA user needs for using ICT tools based on Linked Data to share SOE information between the national and the European level. To establish a process of online SOE-reporting from national websites to EEA SOE web site and vice versa To improve the sharing of national and European information through the use of a Linked Data approach for SOE information through a pilot learning process for both EEA and Eionet. To exchange know how (i.e. on Linked Data technology) between EEA and Eionet.

What we learned RDF is suitable for exchange of structured information. In the SENSE project that structure was given through the SOER Country Assessment guidelines. An indicator template is also a structured piece of information Through the RDF, the participating countries now have the possibility to share information, each country being responsible for their own information moving towards a more decentralised system in a SEIS coherent way. ssskcjkjion 8

Next steps – Ideas for discussions in March 2011 (NFP and MB meetings)
The process towards SOER & RDF and linked data and indicators (SENSE Phase II) The focus could be on the exchange of indicator information from the European level to the national/regional level in order to establish EEA as a client to the MS. There are templates for indicators which should give the necessary structure for an RDF flow. The indicators should be suitable for benchmarking and be of interest in 2015 in the SOER2015 report. Eurostat participation? Should we together consider a system with continuous updating?
