Metallic Bond IKATAN LOGAM
2
Teaching Learning Objectivers
The student can describe forming of metal bond. The student can relate to physic properties of metal.
3
Metalic atoms tend to lose their outer shell
electrons and forming a positively charge. The cations thus produced are held together by the forces of attraction between them and the negatively charged electrons. These electrons are found in a common pool and are free to move between all the cations. The metallic crystals consist of cations immersed in “sea” of electron that are freely moved.
4
This shows what a metallic bond might look like.
- A metallic bond occurs in metals. A metal consists of positive ions surrounded by a “sea” of mobile electrons.
5
Properties of Metal Often hard,
Have a high boiling point and melting point, Good conductors of heat and electricity, Have a shiny surfase (when polished).
