What is the Scientific method?
It is the steps someone takes to identify a question, develop a hypothesis, design and carry out steps or procedures to test the hypothesis, and document observations and findings to share with someone else. In other words, it’s a way to solve a problem.

Scientific Method 1.Problem/Purpose/Question/ Research
2.Formulate a Hypothesis 3.Procedure/Experiment 4.Observation and Data 5.Conclusion 5a.Communicate the Results
4
Problem/ Purpose/ Question Research
Before you begin your experiment you must have a goal. Research: Locate evidence of the problem and research your topic of interest. What is the scientific question you are trying to answer The problem should be written as a statement not a question. Develop a question or problem that can be solved through experimentation.

Formulate a Hypothesis
Formulate a Hypothesis: Predict a possible answer to the problem or question you have researched. definition: NOUN: pl. hy·poth·e·ses: An uncertain explanation for an observation, phenomenon, or scientific problem that can be tested by further investigation. Must use the words IF……..THEN………… Do not use pronouns. Example: IF soil temperatures rise, THEN plant growth will increase.
7
Experiment/ Procedure
Experiment: a detailed explanation of how you will conduct the experiment to test your hypothesis Include a detailed materials & equipment list. The outcome must be measurable (quantifiable). Procedures must be written so another person can duplicate the experiment
8
Observation and Data collection
Keep a detailed journal of observations, data, and results. Journal must contain data measurements & written notes about what you are sensing (hearing, seeing, smelling, touching) about your experiment, make sure to note any changes. Take photographs to show development.
9
Analysis Explain your observations, data, and results.
Do not make any guesses or put your opinion in this section. The analysis is strictly for presenting information by using data from charts, graphs, and results.
10
CONCLUSION Conclusion: Include a statement that accepts or rejects the hypothesis. Did your hypothesis answer your data? Make recommendations for further study and possible improvements to the procedure.
