1 Welcome to Groves Level 4 & 5 Japanese Class

2 Global Classroom (KAC: Kizuna Across Culture): Groves Level 3 Japanese students will participate in this! KAC facilitates the international exchange program Global Classmates for high schools in Japan and the U.S. Through a dynamic online interaction using messages, photos, and videos, students get to know their "classmates" in another country and practice their foreign language skills, as well as build lasting friendships. Please see this video and site: Due to the nature of this program, there is NO LATE WORK for this program.

3 Differentiated Learning and Independent Assignment
Students in these levels work based on their needs. They will work for the same standard for each unit with their INDEPENDENT WORK PLAN with their own Essential Questions/Learning Target/Success Criteria. Students will assess their needs and steps with the teacher-student conferences in class/outside class.

5 Extra Help Assessments
Please schedule in advance and come to see me either A or B lunch. Assessments It is important to have an updated address in the Power School. I will use the address in the Power School to communicate about the class. ACTFL World Language Standard Japanese classes at both Berkshire and Groves follow the National Standard set by ACTFL. I will communicate more details in the future in the Japanese E-News. Mind set: We will have the mind set of "How can I?" instead of "Can I?" I expect students (and parent/guardian) to discuss how to improve the performance instead of just talking about the letter grade.

6 Formative Assessment & Formative Feedback:
<Class work & Homework> Most of the class work and Homework will not be graded or included in the final grade. Different students might receive different homework. Summative Assessment: This will be the grade students receive. This can be a test, project, performances and some other ways that students show their achievement in the standard. We will be using the Work Plan Sheet for each unit to design this assessment individually. <Late work> The concept of late work does not exist in this class since each student has their own plan for the unit. However, any assignment to become summative assessment must be turned in before the class moves on to the next unit. <Formative Assessments/Summative Assessments/Quiz/Tests & Re-do> This is not the simple re-take of the same assessment. Guidelines and some requirements will be given before Re-do. <Accountability/Attribute/Competency>
