1
Rugby League is a great team game.
Every year the two best teams battle it out for the title of champions in the Grand Final of Super League which is played at Old Trafford.
2
One of the greatest ever team efforts in Rugby League was made by the Great Britain team of 1958.
In those days injured players could not be replaced during a game. The British captain, Alan Prescott, led his side to Ashes victory despite breaking his arm in the third minute of the match. He played on for the sake of the team.
3
For teams to be effective then everyone in the team must play their part.
Think about this as you listen to the amazing story of the golden plover.

The Migration of the Golden Plover
Stick Together!

The Golden Plover This bird is a Golden Plover
Pluvialis Dominica Fulva
7
The Golden Plover Every year the Golden Plover migrates over 4000 kilometres (about 2,500 miles)
8
It travels from Alaska to Hawaii
9
The Golden Plover The entire journey is over the sea.
Golden Plovers cannot swim. They have to fly none stop. The journey takes 88 hours.
10
The Golden Plover To make the journey…
…the Plovers have to beat their wings over 250,000 times!
11
The Golden Plover At the start their average weight is 200 grams. 70 grams of this is fat (padding) which acts as fuel. AT THE RATE AT WHICH THEY FLY THEY WOULD NEED 82 GRAMS OF FAT FOR THE JOURNEY
12
The Golden Plover This would mean they would drop into the sea and die about 800 kilometres (500 miles) from land! But they do not. WHY???
13
The Golden Plover Scientists have worked out that by flying together in a V formation, the plovers save 23% of their energy. They could not do it alone.
14
The Golden Plover People are a bit like that.
In Galatians 6:2 in the Bible it says: “Carry each others burdens and in this way you will carry out the law of Christ.”
15
So Remember… we are stronger and achieve more when … we work together
we help one another we encourage one another …
16
… when we are a team …
17
… because there is no ‘I’ in TEAM!
