1 Bellringer Nov. 16 Write down THREE open ended discussion questions you have about this section on the scrap paper on your desk. (have your notes out so that I can check them.)

2 Listening and Speaking Criteria.
Student participates in seminar by doing ALL of the following: Student follows norms for discussion both as listener and speaker.  This includes making eye contact, sitting up straight, and maintaining focus and energy throughout the discussion. Uses academic transitions and phrases to build on the thoughts of others every time he/she speaks. Makes a relevant comment, question, or clarifying question that is on- topic and builds the discussion. Provides relevant quotes from the focus texts to support point.  Offers page number/title, directs everyone to the text, and waits for most of the group to find the quote and reads it out loud. Explains how the quote supports point in own words. Does not dominate or withdraw; does not need to be invited to join discussion or asked to hold back until others have spoken.

3 Today’s discussion - You are in a circle for a reason.
The inner circle discusses. The outer circle coaches. We will switch roles. Outer circle takes notes on what their inner circle partner says.

6 Reflection: Complete the reflection paper.

7 After lunch We are starting the common assessment
You need a #2 pencil. I will lend you one in return for your phone or keys. We will have next class to finish this common assessment. Unit projects are due Dec. 1 – we will go over putting them together on Wednesday, briefly. It’s an alphabet book. Next section is due on Dec 1/2 (Part II chapters 7-21) I would read ahead over break – maybe knock the entire book out?
