1 1/22 Daily Catalyst Pg. 7 Review
1. Mrs. Ireland wants to test what will get rid of the wasps in her room the fastest. She sprays one nest with water, the second nest with wasp spray and the third she leaves alone. She repeats this procedure for week and carefully records her results. Write a possible hypothesis for this situation. What is a control variable in this experiment? If Mrs. Ireland wanted to compare the three procedures, what type of chart would she use? 2. Explain the difference between an observation and an inference.

2 1/22 Daily Catalyst Pg. 7 Review
Unit 1 test on Friday Study guide due Friday If you will be absent, make prior arrangements with Mrs. Ireland! Biology notebook/binder check on Friday Please check the website for help

3 1/22 Agenda Pg. 7 Review Daily Catalyst Class business Review game
Study guide work time Homework: STUDY FOR THE TEST

4 Question #1 1 POINT 5 POINTS ? An experimental variable that the IV is not applied to is: A control group What step of the scientific method comes after objectively testing your hypothesis? Analyze Data

5 Based on the graph, what is an appropriate title?
Question #2 ? 3 Points 6 Points Based on the graph, what is an appropriate title? If scientists were to graph the information from the experiment that measured plant growth over time, what type of graph would they use? Line graph Travel expenses

6 ? Question #3 1 POINT 5 POINTS Provide an example of an inference:
Explain the difference between a theory and a hypothesis. A theory is a broad explanation for a big idea. A hypothesis is a prediction for a specific event. Provide an example of an inference: I smell cookies and I know Hefer likes to bake so I bet he is making cookies.

7 Question #4 4 POINTS ? 1 POINT Daniel is testing his brother’s favorite food. For one week he writes down what he eats for breakfast, the amount he eats, and his feelings about the food. Identify the quantitative data and qualitative. Quantitative: amount he eats Qualitative: what he eats and feelings If you were graphing information, where would the IV and DV go? IV: x-axis DV: y-axis

8 ? Question #5 5 POINTS 1 POINT
Rilda is growing a flower garden and testing a type of fertilizer. For her experiment results to be valid, what must she control? Type of flower, fertilizer, amount given, water, and sunlight If you were measuring the weight of the desk, you would use (think metric)? Kilogram

9 ? Question #6 1 POINT 5 POINTS
What is the difference between a inference and an observation? Observation includes your 5 senses and inference is observations AND prior knowledge What are the basic units of the metric system? Gram, liter, meter, and Celsius

10 STOP! It’s Review Time!!

11 Review Time Direction: With a partner, finish your study guide and review your notes and material for tomorrow’s test. I would know: Conversions Steps of the scientific method How to properly read a graph Identify variables in a lab situation Review Quiz #2 and exit tickets Inferences Redi’s experiment (easy points!)
