From Paul’s Second Letter to Timothy, chapter , verse 5
Evangelist - a person who seeks to convert others to the Christian faith, especially by public preaching.

5. Engage
Cedd was born in Northumbria in the late sixth century and joined the monastery of Lindisfarne where he served many years. When King Peada of the Middle Angles became a Christian, Cedd was sent with three other priests to preach the gospel in this new territory.
He returned to Lindisfarne, was made a Bishop and then went back to Essex to continue his work, building churches, two monasteries, and ordaining deacons and priests.

What do you think inspired the early Christians to travel and evangelise?
Why do you think that one of the first things they did was to build churches?
How does belief in God help people overcome adversity?
Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?”
Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair.
Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student.
Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections.
Activity suggestion … Cedd arrived in Essex by boat. Design and make small paper boats.
