1 Unit C3-Structure and bonding
1. Identify 3 states of matter and state symbols. Describe the processes of melting, freezing, boiling and condensing. 5. Draw a dot and cross diagram for an ionic bond (group 1 and 7). Describe what is happening to the electron in the formation of an ionic compound. 9. Explain why ionic compounds have a high melting point. Describe how and when (relate to state and bonding) ionic compounds conduct electricity. 13. 14. 2. Draw particle models to represent the particles in the 3 states of matter. 6. Write the charges of group 1, 2, 6 and 7 elements. Draw and describe an ionic lattice. State what type of attraction happens between positive and negative ions. 10. 3. Explain melting and boiling points in terms of energy, particles and temperature. Describe evaporation and the factors that affect it. Foundation Key Revision Unit C3-Structure and bonding Green- level 4 Yellow – level 5-6 11. 7. Use formula of ionic compounds to determine the number and type of ions present (cross over method). 4. State what particles are needed for chemical bonding to happen. Describe (giving an example for each) how a group 1 and a group 7 atom becomes an ion. 8. State properties of ionic substances (melting points, solubility, conduction of electricity). Draw and describe an ionic lattice. 12.
