Genesis 32:28 (NIV) 28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel,[a]because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.” All along had responded, reacted based on what people said he was. God told him that he was a prince, with power and favored by God! Had to balance between his dark side (Jacob) and his good side (Israel). The blood of Jesus covers my Jacob so that my Israel can take over!

Jacob lived full life. Defied death until he was ready to go. He called his sons, blessed them and gave instruction – Gen49

Genesis 49:33 (NIV) 33 When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people. The Jacob we see here is a seasonal leader who has gone through a lot of pressure that has thickened his spirit. At the end of his life, he is fulfilled – his life is filled to the full, reconciled and satisfied. He has lived for 17 years with a son he thought was dead. 17 years of vindication! Many times he had thought he would die, BUT GOD SUSTAINED him throughout. Weeping may endure for a night but JOY COMES IN THE MORNING!
