Narrow Strip of land 550 miles long
30 miles wide
Located long the Nile River
“Gift of the Nile” – Egypt existed because of the Nile River
They called their land “Kemet”
Means black land for the dark rich soil located there

3. The Nile River Longest river in the world 4000 miles long
Flow North toward the Mediterranean Sea
Delta – river branches out into the sea
Floods – once a year, at the same time every year (Mid- July) – brought fertile soil
Cataracts – waterfalls on the Nile
Irrigation
Basins – holes dug in the ground used to store water
Shadoof – a machine used to lift water from the river to basins and canals
