1 How to Annotate AOWs done correctly!

2 What is an AOW? An article you will receive twice a week.
You will read it, annotate it, and write a one page reflection to receive credit. You will have 45 minutes to complete this task in class.

3 Annotating helps: Educate you about what is going on in the world Build stamina when reading Monitor and improve comprehension Promote higher order thinking

4 Supplies

5 While you are reading the AOW…

6 After reading and annotating…
Use the questions you have created in the margins to help guide your reflection Draw from personal or real world experiences Question Inference Argue if the article warrants an argument

7 Do NOT under any circumstance…
SUMMARIZE Reflections are NOT summaries!

8 Turning in Articles of the Week…
As a general rule: The more writing and evidence of thinking in the margins, the better the grade Use the symbols provided in the Read with a Pen handout (underline, circle, ?, !, arrow, EX, 1,2,3) Format and neatness matters! If I can’t read it, I can’t grade it! Use a pencil, it’s easy to erase a mistake

9 How is it graded?

10 Note: AOWs might be a daily grade, quiz grade, or major grade
I will NOT tell you how it will be weighted in advance.

11 What should it look like?
