(A) Mixing of wild-type gametes results in rapid fusion at mating projections and disappearance of cell-surface FUS1 (black) and HAP2 (red). (B) Adhesion fails when fus1 mutant plus gametes are mixed with wild-type plus gametes and cell-surface HAP2 protein persists. (C) When wild-type plus gametes and hap2 mutant minus gametes are mixed, adhesion occurs, but fusion fails. In this case FUS1 protein persists.
