Why are we here? Education is an apex priority for the SAG
Since the policy came into effect, multisectoral coordination and planning toward implementation Actions needed – amending existing legislation, establishing leadership structures, allocating sufficient budget, effective communication, accountability, reliable credible data on numbers and quality of existing ECD services. While it is not clear exactly how many young children live in SA, the last census in 2011 counted 6.7m children under 6 years. (takes place every 10 yrs) Over half of SA’s young children live in GP (21%), KZN (19%) and EC (14%) Second to KZN, EC has the highest number of young children living in food poor households (<R415 in 2015) and in households where no adult is employed. Of the 9 provinces, EC has the second highest number of infant deaths within 7 days per live births Maternal Care- EC has the lowest number of children who live with their biological mother (77%) vs the average of 85% Postnatal follow-up – 58% of women birthing in public facilities who receive follow-up care 6 days after birth compared to GP at 77%, FS at 71%, KZN at 70% Broad range of needs-interdependent > collaboration and partnerships
