The Crusades  By: Annika, Kim, Jesse, and Elijah 

2 Qeustions  What were 2 of the weapons used in the crusades? How big was the army in the 2 crusade?

3 What were the crusades? The crusades were a religious war between Christians and Muslims. It started because they both wanted to own the holy land. All eight major crusade expeditions occurred between 1096 and  

4 Who did they make fight in wars?
They fought mainly between Arabs, they controlled Jerusalem and Europe's armies, mainly in the holy empire. There was a fight between 30,000 soldiers from Europe. They made commoners, peasants and knights all fight for the holy land. 

5 How many died in the crusades?
The Crusades were series of invasions that lasted for years. The let down in this war was the sanction of the pope. An estimated 1 million people died.

6 What weapons did they use?
Some of the weapons they used were halberds, which were a simple pike fitted with an axe head, it was mostly used by knights and their horses. They also had bows, cross bows, and battle axes. They had a lot more too.

7 What were their tactics?
The Christians rode male horses and they shot their arrows and weapons from far away. Muslims rode female horses and they shot their arrows from up close.

8 What were the Effects of the crusades?
The Crusades weakened feudalism. Thousands of knights sold their land for to raise money for the expedition. Many crusaders returned in critical conditions.

9 Children in the crusades
During the summer of 1212, thousands of children took crusading vows and went out to recover Jerusalem from the Muslims.

10 The first Crusade  The first crusade was a military campaign by western European forces. This crusade was made to recapture Jerusalem and the Holy Land from Muslin control.

11 The second crusade  The second crusade was organized by the Pope and European nobles. There was an army of 60,000 and the crusade was not successful.

12 The third Crusade  The Third Crusade was led by three European monarchs and was also known as "the Kings' Crusade'". The Crusade collapsed because the western leaders noticed they didn't have enough resources or people to defend themselves against armies of Saladin.

13 The fourth crusade was called by pope innocent the 3rd between the crusader leadership went in agreement with the byzantine prince to divert the crusading force to Constantinople but only in 1203 did they reach Constantinople.    The Forth Crusade 

14 Fun Facts about The Crusades
 Women would fight in the war, but had to dress in men's clothes.  The Christian people wanted to control Jerusalem because it was the site where Christ was crucified and rose from the dead. There battle cry was "Deus vult!" This means "God wills it!" Crusaders wore a red cross as a symbol on their armor and clothing, as well as on flags and banners that were carried into battle.
