Mission Statement Friends Child Care Center is guided by the Quaker belief that there is that of God in every person. This belief inspires and informs everyday life at the Center while it affirms the individual value of each child, teacher and parent. The approach to learning is broad but simple: children learn to get along with other people as they experience the rewards of learning what they want to know. Friends Child Care Center provides quality child care for young children whose parents are Friends Center employees or live/work in the Philadelphia area. We strive to reflect the cultural and economic diversity of our urban community. We encourage young children in their ability to be caring, curious, responsible beings. Danielle

Goals for 2015-16 Increase diversity at FCCC
Explore the possibility of providing school lunches (on an optional basis) Expect a survey on this soon—we would like to gauge interest Establish a strong sense of Quaker identity throughout the school culture Increase community involvement Jess

Please fill out a response card! We are looking for volunteers to participate in committee work on ongoing projects – committee meetings are scheduled for one evening every two months here at the Center (child care provided) Or help out by sharing in or with our classrooms. Jess or other?

2015/16 Year at a Glance Renovated play yard
Expanded science and nature curriculum to include more outdoor experiences gardening Maintained and strengthened STAR 3 standards Five staffed earned Child Development Associates Credentials

Continuous Quality Improvement 2016/2017
Maintain and strengthen STAR 3 standards throughout the facility and re-designate in November 2016 Ascertain overall program strengths and improvement needs through parent survey by January 2017 Continue to build/strengthen family involvement levels through school life opportunities, community and fundraising events Create opportunities for more frequent visits to area venues including The Free Library and area museums throughout the school year

Play is a tool for instruction.
Play observations inform weekly individualized activity planning Play creates opportunities for “investigations” Play helps teachers assess skills without testing Play allows children to develop social skills, confidence & own identity as a friend and learner

Why what Children learn at Fccc is crucial...
Cooperation, empathy & flexibility are vital in modern day work Quality early childhood programs equip children with developing “soft skills” that in conjunction with cognitive abilities, lead to later in life success Building character, dependability and perseverance are as important as cognitive achievement Children play to grow these skills, not easily measured but vital
