Evolution of Mario Nintendo’s main success falls upon a plumber named Mario. Mario has been Nintendo’s main franchise since Super Mario Bros. Mario games have contributed the most sales for Nintendo. Mario has appeared in over 200 games. "Only a handful of characters can last for one, two, or three decades" (Satoru Iwata’s final shareholders meeting).

4 Mario’s main goal in his games is to save his girlfriend princess Peach. Nintendo has used this stereotypical trope plotline in the majority of its games, and this is hurting Nintendo’s revenue.

6 Pro: Why do exclusive franchises matter
PRO: Differentiation between other brands. By having exclusive franchises consumers are more familiar with the Nintendo brand. CON: Repetitive storylines can discourage new ideas. With the Nintendo franchise there are often sequels that fail to its successors.
