1 “Sudden power outage creates 'nightmare' at Atlanta airport”

2 ATLANTA -- A sudden power outage caused by a fire in an underground electrical facility brought the world's busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, to a standstill Sunday, grounding more than 1,000 flights in Atlanta. Passengers at the airport were left in the dark when the lights went out at around 1 p.m. The outage halted all outgoing flights, and arriving planes were held on the ground at their point of departure. The City of Atlanta said on its Twitter page that it would provide shuttle service to the Georgia Convention Center for travelers in need of a place to stay and Chick-fil-A would be provided. Police made passengers who were in the baggage-claim area move to a higher floor. Restaurants and shops were closed. Vending machines weren't working. Delta Air Lines said about 900 of its flights were canceled Sunday and about 300 flights will be canceled Monday. Delta customers flying to or from Atlanta can make a one-time change to travel plans without incurring a $200 change fee. Officials announced that power had been fully restored to the airport shortly after midnight.

3 In Other News Nick Foles threw four touchdown passes in his first start replacing the injured Carson Wentz, and the Philadelphia Eagles secured a first-round playoff bye, defeating the New York Giants on Sunday. Foles hit 24 of 38 passes for 237 yards and no interceptions. The Eagles (12-2) made a late stand on first-and-goal in the final minute in edging the Giants (2-12) for the second time this season. Nearly a month ago, Sarah Idan was in a hand-beaded Swarovski crystal gown representing Iraq in the Miss Universe pageant. It was the first time in 45 years that Iraq had a contestant in the pageant. "I was on cloud nine, I had been dreaming of that forever," said Idan, 27. But all of that suddenly changed. And it was all over a selfie. Idan and Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman, took the picture during a pre-pageant photo shoot. In the caption, she wrote "Peace and Love from Miss Iraq and Miss Israel.” The reaction wasn't what she expected. Six days before the pageant, she woke up to threats from the Miss Iraq organization, warning her to take down the photo or she'd be stripped of the title. Others threatened her life. Iraq and Israel don't have any formal diplomatic relations, so the picture was causing an international outcry.
