Rapid Response Feedback Exercise
Hi Everyone – We’re going to take 15 minutes of time today to participate in an interactive exercise that will be combined with many other peoples’ feedback to help guide a new initiative for the Minneapolis Public Schoos.
2
Why are we here? Minneapolis Public Schools have worked hard in recent years to improve the quality and nutritional value of the food it serves to students. To continue this good work, they are conducting a feasibility study to develop a shared vision with community members, students and their families, and district staff for what the Urban Educational Farm could be! The feasibility study is fully and generously funded by Target. Neither the feasibility study nor the farm itself will have any negative impact on the MPS general fund. We’re here today to help MPS’s Culinary and Wellness Services with a community engagement process, designed to help shape a vision for a District Urban Educational Farm Model. As you can see on the slide there are three important things to understand: Minneapolis Public Schools have worked hard in recent years to improve the quality and nutritional value of the food it serves to students.

How will it work? You will see a slide that shows a question.
We have just a few minutes per question. Your job is to share your answer with the facilitator, who will write it down on the flip chart. We’ll do five rounds of questions. 15 minutes later, we’ll be done! The word ‘farm,’ can describe many things: Many school gardens, a larger farm or two, indoor growing, bees, animals, summertime, wintertime! Faciliator reads the slide. And closes by saying “It’s important to remember that we’re using the word ‘farm,’ but these feedback activities are what will shape what we mean by ‘farm’ – you can see on the slide some of the ways that farm can be defined. These are just examples – feel free to be creative! All answers are right!

Round #1 - Possibilities
As quickly as you can, name things that could make up or describe a school farm (indoors, outdoors, gardens, larger plot, hydroponics, plants on the windowsill, etc). Faciliator reads the slide.
5
Round #2 - Uses As quickly as you can, what are all the ways these kinds of school farms can help our students learn? Faciliator reads the slide.
6
Round #3 - Partnerships As quickly as you can, what are ways that the community and families could participate in a school farm? Faciliator reads the slide.
7
Round #4 - Challenges Given all of these scenarios, what’s important to keep in mind? Faciliator reads the slide.
8
Round #5 – Final thoughts
What excites you most about the farm? Faciliator reads the slide.
