2 DPM Generator Modeling Guidelines
Page 10 – 2018 DPM…… Modeling of generators shall comply with the following: If the individual-generator-unit capacity is 10 MVA or larger and the generator is connected to the WECC transmission system at 60 kV or higher, then submit steady-state data and dynamics data for each generator. If the aggregated-generator-unit capacity is 20 MVA or larger, the generators are connected to the WECC transmission system at 60 kV or higher, and it is not a collector-based generation facility− then submit steady-state data and dynamics data for each generator. (Wind and solar farms are examples of collector-based generation facilities.) If the aggregated-generation capacity is 20 MVA or larger, the generators are connected to the WECC transmission system at 60 kV or higher, and it is a collector-based generation facility− then submit steady-state data and dynamics data for the aggregated generation capacity as a single-unit generator model. All other generating facilities shall be netted with bus load in steady-state data and have their Non-Conforming Load Flag set appropriately. Steady-state and dynamic generator data shall be consistent.

3 Distributed Generation
DG expected to be significant in future years (some states have RPS requirements for DG) DG can be any resource connected on the distribution grid – hydro, solar, energy storage etc Two types of DG - Utility scale (community solar etc). Historical output and location should be known - Commercial and residential. Historical output data may not be available Dynamic Model – CMPLDWG not approved for base case implementation by MVWG Implement Power flow model for now

4 DG Criteria Any member already modeling DG ? Criteria Used ?
Power flow Model – Change existing Criteria? New Criteria? 1. Model DG if > a percentage of load Plot on next slide 2. Model DG > a set MW ? Different criteria for Utility scale and Residential/Commercial?

5 2018HS4.sav – Load Analysis X-axis: Load from 0 to 10MW Y-axis: count of loads above a MW value by area
