How we measure our effectiveness?
19
Core Measures - Always used

Attachment behaviour in relationships - EFQ (Expression of Feeling Questionnaire). Emotional regulation- EFQ. Parent’s understanding and confidence - TAYC (Thinking about your Child). Child’s openness to parenting - TAYC. Placement stability - TAYC.
20
Additional Measures Attachment representations - Story Stems.
Cognitive function - WISC IV (Weschsler Intelligence Scale for Children), WPPSI (Weschsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence). Neurodevelopmental measures of executive function, social perception, memory & attention - NEPSY (A Development Neuropsychological Assessment), TEA-Ch (Test of Everyday Attention for Children).
21
Additional Measures, continued:
Sensory processing – (The Sensory Profile; Bruininks-Oseretsky of Motor Proficiency; The Roll Evaluation of Activities of Life; Beery Test of Visual Motor Integration; Perceived Efficacy and Goal Setting System; Test of Visual Perceptual Skills and DASH - Assessment of Speed of Handwriting). Parenting stress - PSI (Parenting Stress Index). Mindfulness Awareness Attention Scale (MAAS). Self-Compassion Scale (SCS). Introducing Compassion Towards Others.
22
The story so far…. Core measures administered each year.
Just enough data to report on from within first to second year of adoptive placement. Audit of interventions by sessions has been analysed over five years. Caveats regarding data Limited numbers to date. No control group.
23
Main findings 19 Placements. No disruptions for all our families.
Trend improvement - due to limited numbers.
24
Confidence in parenting skills and understanding holding firm.
Sense of placement stability remaining strong. Improved attachment behaviours. Improved emotional regulation of child.
25
Future developments Reporting on a longer time period.
Measuring outcomes by intervention by number of sessions. Finding a naturalistic control group such as TAU, spot purchase families or local authority permanency cohort.
