3. Social Context of Story: Migrant Workers
What is a migrant worker? -anyone who migrates within one country or across many countries for work Is this a popular market? U.S. Department of Labor suggest that approximately 1.3 million U.S. citizens migrate between states, earning their living by working in the agricultural industry. What is life like for the average migrant worker? For the past decade the median income of farmworker families has remained less than $10,000. -usually have lower life-expectancy rates due to poor and dangerous working conditions.

4. Social Context of Story: Background
It is semi-autobiographical: based on his experiences as a migrant farmer, but he has fictionalized the character. Is about child labor in the migrant community: these children do not get to attend school regularly, they often are injured or killed, and they are not protected by labor laws like the rest of children.
