Central Nervous System
Divisions of the Nervous System Central Nervous System Peripiheral Nervous System
2
Central Nervous System
Control Center of Body Brain and Spinal Cord
3
Brain Part of Central Nervous System (CNS) located in skull.
Controls most body functions. Contain 100 billlion interneurons
4
One of 3 main sections of the brain.
Cerebrum One of 3 main sections of the brain. Largest Part of Brain Interprets input from senses--- controls movement (voluntary muscles--- carries out complex mental processes (learning/remembering)_
5
Second largest part of brain
Cerebellum Second largest part of brain Coordinates actions of your muscles and helps you keep your balalnce
6
Brain Stem Located between the cerebellum and spinal cord
Midbrain-Pons-Medulla Oblongota Located between the cerebellum and spinal cord Heart Beat Controls your body's involuntary actions Breathing Blood Pressure Sleep
7
Spinal Cord Thick column of nervous tissue that links the brain
to most of the nerves in the peripheral nervous system.
8
Peripheral Nervous System
Series of nerves that branch out from the central nervous system and connect to the rest of the body
9
Somatic Nervous System
Nerves of the pheripheral nervous system that control voluntary actions
10
Autonomic Nervous System
Part of the Peripheral Nervous System that controls Involuntary Actions
11
Does Not involve the Brain=no thinking
Reflex Automatic response that occurs rapidly without conscious control to protect the body Does Not involve the Brain=no thinking
12
A bruise like injury of the brain. Occurs when
Concussion A bruise like injury of the brain. Occurs when soft tissue of brain collides against the skull.
