1 x Variable: A letter that represents an unknown number.
4
2 8 Constant: A number.
5
A number written above and to the right of a base number.
3 x2 Exponent: A number written above and to the right of a base number. The exponent shows how many times to use the base number in repeated multiplication. For example, 52 is 5 x 5.

addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
4 Operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
7
A mix of variables, constants, exponents, and operations.
5 5x + y + 8 – x2 Expression: A mix of variables, constants, exponents, and operations. Expressions do not have equal signs.
8
A small part of the expression.
6 5x + y + 8 – x2 Term: A small part of the expression. Each term is separated by + or –

The student packet is broken up into two lessons. pages 1-2 vocabulary
pages 3-4 combining like terms. The PPT guides students through the lessons by giving them information and providing practice. Some slides ask the student to write something down and the answer will appear once the “answer” button is clicked. Some slides have multiple choices and the correct answer will be highlighted once clicked. There are many ways to use this product teaching new material whole class review independent practice centers students watch PPT and follow along with the student packet. students complete the packet first and then self correct with the PPT. Common Core State Standards covered in this lesson.
6.EE.3 Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. For example, apply the distributive property to the expression 3(2 + x) to produce the equivalent expression 6 + 3x; apply the distributive property to the expression 24x + 18y to produce the equivalent expression 6(4x + 3y); apply properties of operations to y + y + y to produce the equivalent expression 3y. (This activity covers combining like terms which is the part that I highlighted)
