Avogadro’s Law
2
What is the same about these gases? What is different about these gases?
3
STP (Standard Temperature and Pressure) =
Avogadro’s principle states that equal volumes of gases at the same temperature and pressure contain equal number of particles. The molar volume for a gas is the volume that one mole occupies at 0oC and 1 atm or STP. This is equal to 22.4 L. STP (Standard Temperature and Pressure) = 1 atm and 0oC or 1 atm and 273K 1 mole of gas at STP = 22.4 L
4
Problem #1 Calculate the volume that mol of gas at standard temperature and pressure (STP) will occupy.
5
Problem #2 How many moles of oxygen gas will be contained in 5.00L flask at STP?
6
Problem #3 Calculate the volume that g of methane gas will occupy at STP.
7
Problem #4 How many grams of carbon dioxide gas are in a 0.75 L balloon at STP?
