How We Express Ourselves Grade: Dates of planner instruction: January – February 2018 KEY CONCEPTS: Perspective: What are the points of view? Change: How is it changing? Responsibility: What is our responsibility? -Exploration -Community An inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs, and values. WHAT’S HAPPENING… Central Idea Lines of Inquiry Approaches to Learning Related concepts: -how change happens as a result of people’s actions, beliefs, and values -how people express beliefs and values effectively and appropriately -how point of view is based on beliefs and values -People express their beliefs and values through words and action to make a difference in the world. -Research Skills -Communication Skills -Social Skills Please help your child understand this concept by explaining the things you believe and value. Then talk to them about the differences you would like to see in the world.

What You Can Do With Your Child at Home Talk about the Learner Profile Attributes and Attitudes Students will strive to be: Important Dates: *Report Cards go home Jan. 11th *No School: Monday, Jan. 15th *ELO’s start Jan. 23rd *Quarter 3 Progress Reports Feb. 2nd Monday, Feb. 19th Remember: *Students can not be on school grounds before 7:55 before there is no supervision *Students are more successful when they are at school as much as possible, attendance is important! - Open-Minded - Principled - Risk Takers (Learner Profile attributes show who we are on the inside) - Confidence - Commitment Empathy (Attitudes are what we show the world through our actions) Students should demonstrate: Success Criteria for This Unit Students will Ask: Does everyone have the same beliefs and values? Does one person have the ability to make a difference in the world? What actions do people take based on their point of view, beliefs, and values? What is the difference between fact and opinion and how do they work together to express a point of view?
